Apparently, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay packed a lot of lemon powder before they embarked on their journey to scale the Mt. Everest. They made lemonade with it and drank it for energy as lemon eases breathing when oxygen levels dip (as most of us know). There are two versions of lemonade that come to my mind. One, is the quick-to-make fresh lemon juice - just dissolve sugar (to taste) in a glass of water, squeeze a lemon into it, mix well and spice it up with a dash of pepper and salt or the lethal black salt. Of course, powdered sugar makes the job easier. I got to know about this technique about a year back when a few friends and I decided to set up a 'chaat / lemonade' stall at a college festival. Quite a profitable venture that was.
The other is the one I've grown up on. I'd like to fondly call it "Mom's Lemonade". This one involves making sugar syrup and putting lemon juice just before taking the syrup off the heat. Usually take 2 cups of sugar for half a cup of lemon juice (from say 6 medium sized lemons). Next bottle the syrup and store it in the refrigerator. Use it as a refresher whenever you feel like - pour some syrup in the glass, add chilled water or soda and sprinkle salt. Aah! Can also use the lemon syrup as part of other mocktails or cocktails.
